An Coinneal 2012 is Launched

The much anticipated publication of An Choinneal has arrived. This special edition was launched on Saturday September 8th 2012, to coincide with St. Patricks Church, Louisburgh 150th anniversary celebrations.

The oldest parish magazine in the country, having appeared regularly since 1959, An Choinneal continues to provide an insight into life in Kilgeever parish. An Choinneal 2012 has a very detailed account of the building of St Patricks Church complied by the editor John Lyons. It also contains many local stories, tributes and photographs.

It is amazing to read that amid all the struggles and hardships of Famine, the people of Kilgeever were drawing hope and inspiration for survival, by building a new Catholic Church in Louisburgh. The perseverance and countless battles fought by Fr. Michael Curley P.P. adding strength and direction to the project, just goes to prove the resilient and “never give up” attitude of our Irish ancestors.
