Launch of Project- "Traders on the Reek"- National Heritage Week 2023

Stauntons Pub Heritage Week 2023

Louisburgh Area Men’s Shed (LAMS) and Louisburgh Killeen Heritage have teamed up to launch an exciting new project “Traders on the Reek”.

You are invited to Staunton’s Pub Lecanvey on Friday 18th August 2023 at 8pm, to hear about this never before archived important local heritage.

Everyone is familiar with the Reek- Ireland’s holiest mountain, Croagh Patrick, where thousands climb yearly as a pilgrimage or for some, to catch a bird’s eye view of the three hundred and sixty five islands in Clew Bay.

But who were the local people who offered refreshments to the many crowds that traditionally climbed on the last weekend in July?

Long before take away coffee was a normal daily routine, entrepreneurs’ from Lecanvey and surrounding townlands were catering for the pilgrims and ensuring everyone got a least a hot drink on their journey.

We aim to document the real stories of these amazing people and their dedication to the safety and well being of pilgrims and their love of the Reek.

The event is Free and after a short presentation on the project, you can relax in one of the best pubs in Ireland.

This event is more suitable for adults.

If you can’t attend our launch night but have a story or memory to share about the traders on the Reek, get in touch email; lkheritage@gmail.com
