Book Reading by Michael Lyons- National Heritage Week 2023
Michael Lyons came back to Louisburgh to read from his book “Afterthoughts” during National heritage week 2023. A packed Books at One venue enjoyed listening to Michael read some extracts and also the background to these stories.
A book steeped in local place and rich in vivid memories of snippets of life growing up in the Colony. Michael writes like he talks, painting pictures of the way people lived in a simpler time but also with the realities of the hardships endured, and always with a playful and witty remark to brighten the chapter.
His style of penmanship brings the reader into the moment with colourful similarities to that of a poet. Natives will enjoy reading the book for its characters that are perhaps long since passed, but anyone that opens the pages will be transported back in time and journey with the author on some exciting adventures.
We were joined on the night by Thomas Chambers who accompanied Michael with some wonderful original music and songs. It was lovely to have some of Michaels family attend on the night, at times emotional and at times humorous. The evening went by too quickly.
Thank you to Lisa in Books @One for hosting the event, and we are grateful to Thomas for providing the lovely accompanying music.
We especially are thankful to Michael Lyons, for returning to Louisburgh and providing us with such a beautiful opportunity to learn more about his book. We send every good wish for continued good health and perhaps the time to pen some more memories.
Michael Lyons’ book “Afterthoughts” can be purchased from Books @One Louisburgh.
