There is a wonderful exhibition of paintings by Stefan Luszczak running at the Custom House Studios Gallery, at the Quay, Westport from 14th March – 6th April. Stefan is a regular visitor to Aillemore, Killeen and has taken inspiration from his experience of the landscape in particular, the ever changing light & how it affects the colouring of both land & water.

The work in this exhibition is mainly inspired by views of Croagh Patrick and he has been fortunate to be able to paint it at different times of the year from dawn to dusk.  He has been inspired by the strong presence of this iconic mountain in the landscape. In contrast to the familiar shape of Croagh Patrick, the seclusion of Doolough has inspired him to attempt to capture its haunting atmosphere and hopefully something of the land which has been cut and shaped over the years.

His paintings have really conveyed some of the beauty and drama of the countryside in this rural part of county Mayo. In his own words, “A landscape that has been so significent & inspiring for generations of residents & visitors alike & which seems to retain such a strong hold over those who have moved away.”

It is wonderful to know that our little space here in Louisburgh is having such an influence and warm connection with visitors that stays in their memory long after they have pased through here. Best wishes to Steffan with the exhibition and continued sucess with his amazing gift.

  • The painting is very creative and beautiful. The shades used are very nice. Landscape paintings are something which make you imagine an art where the main subject is a wide view, with its elements arranged into a coherent composition.
