Killeen NS pupils enjoy day at the Museum Of Country Life, Turlough Park

On May 16th 2012, pupils from Holy Family NS Killeen, enjoyed a day at the Museum of Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar. They had completed a fantastic project collecting local folklore and were thrilled to be invited by the museum to see their work on display.

After a tour of the Fitzgearlds landlord house built in 1865, it was on to the museum to see some gold coins. The Coggalbeg Hoard exhibition is running until summer 2012 and well worth a visit. As the students made their way through the many levels of the museum guided by Tom, (who made history entertaining and fun), we came upon a display just by the educational room. What excitement when 5th and 6th class realised that this display was actually their own hand written folk lore collection.

Next we went outside to meet Aoife and Eorann for some traditional games. After a look on the computers at this website it was time for lunch and then home.

Many thanks to all museum staff for their help with making the trip a memorable experience for all involved.
