LIFE on Machair Information Meeting

There will be an information meeting about the LIFE on Machair project in Killeen Community Centre at 7pm on October 24th 2022. We are delighted to support this information evening as a local volunteer heritage group.
Focusing on Natura 2000 areas, the EU funded LIFE on Machair project is a combined programme linking a number of agencies – the Dept. of Housing, Planning, Local Government and Heritage, the Dept. of Agriculture, Forestry and the Marine, Teagasc and Failte Ireland – that will run from 2022-2028.
The focus of the project will be on developing appropriate agri-environment guidance for farming on coastal grassland and dune systems with farmers in the project areas, as well as development of sustainable tourism guidelines for communities and businesses.
The project areas in the Killeen area are the Lough Cahasy, Lough Baun and Roonagh Lough SAC and the Dooagtry Machair system (part of the Mweelrea/Sheefry/Erriff Complex SAC).
So come along and meet the team from LIFE on Machair who will explain more details about the six year project. There will also be information about the ACRES CP program on the night.
