Growing Louisburgh- enabling our community to grow!

A few friends interested in all things growing came together in February 2021 to discuss ideas around a joint community initiative to encourage and share knowledge on all aspects of growing from Vegetables to Plants, from rearing Chickens to getting a cow herd registered. In March 2021 we had a zoom meeting where we pitched the idea to the wider community. All levels of gardening and farming were welcomed. The response was fantastic.  A mailing list and subsequent WhatsApp group were established. Participants were keen to share knowledge and learn from each other. We held monthly meetings on zoom, invited guests gave presentations on their own experiences, on what training was available, what resources were needed and how we could support each other over the spring into summer.

A WhatsApp group proved very popular where many seeds were swopped, advice on planting, tons of encouragement and lots of laughter, but more importantly many questions were ably answered by the participants themselves. Problem solving and ideas flowed. While not being able to physically meet up the zoom and the WhatsApp kept everyone connected and supported. Friendships have formed without having met in real life.

When Heritage week 2021 came around we finally got the chance to meet some of our participants on a Walk & Talk around Louisburgh village. Led by a very passionate gardener Maureen we learnt about the work she does preparing over 100 window boxes every year for display around Louisburgh Village. You can read more about our walk Here
