Continue straight uphill and as you climb Aillemore bray enjoy the view of Croagh Patrick and Killeen church with Clare Island in the background to your left.

Curradavitt Valley

Take the fork in the road to the right. In the distance on your left enjoy views of the Curravalley and on a clear day the summit of Mweelra is visible. Straight ahead is Aillemore.

Croagh Patrick

Before you turn right at a T-junction take a moment to enjoy Croagh Patrick from this angle. About 100 yards up this road you will have a full view of Clare Island, Achill, Louisburgh and Roonagh point.

Inishturk & Caher Islands viewed from Killadoon

Continue to climb the hill from where you can enjoy views of the Islands and the magnificent Atlantic ocean. Straight in front is the holy pilgrim island of Caher with the larger Inishturk guarding from behind, the flat lands of Inisboffin are visible to the left.

Clare Island and coast line

At the bottom of the hill turn right onto the main road then after 20 yards bear left, following an arrow behind a row of houses.  At the junction turn left and follow the winding road downhill taking in the full view of the Atlantic facing you.

Ocean Lodge Hotel Killadoon

The road now rises over a small brow and at the top you see the Ocean Lodge Hotel on your left. Fantastic views of Cross Lough, with Crannóg, a little island, in the centre. Cross Lough is home to resident mute swans and winter visiting Whooper swans. Killadoon beach stretches from Cross, on your right, to Devlin, on your left.

Cross Lough & Cross Village

Follow the arrow marker downhill to Killadoon beach. On a clear day Tullycross and Renvyle, in Connamara, Co. Galway are visible to the left. Just before you enter Killadoon beach note the reedbed on your left, a haven to numerous wildlife & birds. As you enter Killadoon beach take care as there are loose stones underfoot.

Killadoon Beach

You now have two choices when turning right, if the tide is out walk on the strand, if not walk along the stones towards a green sandy area. Here you will pick up the road as you walk alongside Cross Lough with the Crannóg, and through Cross village.

Cross Village

Once through Cross village follow the road to the right, leaving the beaches and the Islands behind you and Croagh Patrick facing you. A long straight road sees Achill to the left.

Straight on to Clapper Bridge, right to Killeen

At the crossroads turn right which will lead you back to Killeen and  your finishing point.  However, if you wish you can visit Clapper Bridge which is sign posted straight ahead at the crossroads and is only about 300 metres.
