In 1971 a young man named Austin Francis O’Malley returned from England to his home in Doughmakeon and put a well thought out dream into action, setting up a Travelling Shop. On Saturday September 18^th, using his Opal Kadett Austin Francis’ shop opened for business, a business that would trade every Saturday, rain, hail, or snow for over 10 years.

The shop proved not only to be a huge success, but a lifeline to many in the community. Kindly Austin Francis has now agreed to talk to us about his experience running the travelling shop and all that was involved in the process.
